HISTORY OF COMPUTERISATION

Computerisation in BCCL started in the year 1974 and the first application taken up was Payroll system. Subsequently, preparation of stores ledger and various related reports were put on the computer. Till 1982, BCCL was hiring computer time at Calcutta. The first computer in BCCL was installed in the year 1982 at HQ. At present BCCL has about 17 servers installed at various locations/areas and HQ. We have Local Area Networking at HQ covering about 350 users. The following computerised applications are operational at BCCL.

  12. Patient Registration System at Central Hospital, Dhanbad

  13. House Maintenance System

  14. Property Return System

Major Achievements :-

  1. Manpower :- All information of the employees in BCCL have been captured. Based on the decision taken by the management certain routine jobs are carried from HQ. The MIS is automatically updated and is available for the management online at their terminals.

  2. Inventory Control :- The online material management system running at stores level has facilitated in giving on-line information regarding their inventory. Material indenting through computer has made it possible to raise indent of those items only for which no stock is available.

  3. Integrated Sales and Fund Management System :- This system has helped our management in knowing various information like sales booking, realisation, expenditure etc on-line at their terminals. Timely processing and transparency has resulted in our valued Customers' satisfaction.

  4. Sales Billing :- Computerised Sales Billing has reduced the bill cycle to a great extent. It has helped a lot to the Sales Realisation Department by providing them online detailed information regarding Despatches & Bills.

  7. WAN  has been installed by E&T Deptt, BCCL.

Future Programme:-

  1. Local Area Networking at Area Offices of BCCL is to be done by CMPDI, Ranchi..

  2. 11th Five Year Plan for colliery Level Computerisation.
